While living and working in Tiverton, Devon in 1985 I had become fascinated by the buzzards and kestrels that swooped above the fields in front of our rented cottage. On our way to Exeter one day we came upon a buzzard standing in the road. Several cars were slowing down, but I stopped and picked it up and we took it to the RSPCA. We were contacted by someone who told us that someone running a wild bird sanctuary was looking for a couple to live in and work at the sanctuary.

When the occult author Kenneth Grant heard of my new position (we were in constant correspondence at the time), he sent me felt tips, a sketch pad and a book of C.F.Tunnicliffe's art for my birthday. The results are the various pictures of animals brought in to the hospital.
